Data retention

• In December 2005 the FFII actively supported the campaign by ISPs and Civil Rights Groups against costly blanket monitoring of all telecommunications (data retention)

Copyright regulation

FFII supports author's rights and interoperability enforcement.

• The FFII works on improving the IPRED2 directive

• The FFII FR supported EUCD.info (2005/2006)

• The FFII signed Berlin Declaration on Collectively Managed Online Rights: Compensation without Control (2004)
• The FFII UK campaigned against IPRED1 (2004)

Information goods for public benefit

• wortbasar.ffii.org (~2000) - early FFII campaign for free German dictionary ressources

• CJK - The FFII provides webhosting for a LaTeX 2e macro package which enables the use of CJK scripts (Chinese/Japanese/Korean) in various encodings, written by Werner Lemberg.

• Groff - The FFII hosts the famous groff tool. the groff (GNU Troff) software is a typesetting package which reads plain text mixed with formatting commands and produces formatted output. Groff now supports HTML.

• c42pdf, transformation tool for document scans, used by document delivery services such as subito at German University libraries
