Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure e.V.

The FFII is a global network of associations dedicated to information, consumer rights and education about free and open software markets, genuine open standards and patent systems with lesser barriers to competition. The FFII continues to protect consumers and defend your right to a free and competitive software market and information freedom by developing education materials, conducting analysis reports and organizing events. How to help us

The FFII is funded partly from individual membership fees, and partly from donations from individuals and larger donors from industry and civil society. Your donations help us to make a difference. FFII e.V. Events

OpenTechSummit 2015

For the second time the OpenTechSummit '16 takes place in Berlin. Together with Linuxtag e.V. and Förderverein Freie Netzwerke the FFII organizes the OpenTechSummit 2016 in Berlin. The FFII curates the track “Internet, Society and Patents”. The track covers policy topics ranging from patents, copyright, net neutrality, privacy issues, digital culture and Internet policies. Other Topics range from open hardware, free knowledge, software development and community networks. In the evening there is be an “OpenTech-Himmelfahrt” social event.

Cryptocon

The Cryptocon takes place in Leipzig annually. The events covers topics like secure data handling and communication as well as privcay questions and digital life in the society with talks and workshops.

Meshcon

As part of the activities of the FFII FashionTec working group, the FFII co-organizes the Meshcon Fashiontec Week with partners such as the TU Berlin and the Makerfaire. The event offeres a place to learn, research and educate participants about the benefits of participatory production in the textile industry.

Software Patents World Day

24 September is the annual Software Patents World Day to commemorate the struggle against the European Union Software Patent Directive. As every year our teams raised awareness about the impact of patents on the future of software development, this year joined by activities in India. More info.

Open Documents

DFD 2012

The FFII supports education and enhancement of consumer protection regarding the European Interoperability Framework and gives recommendations to ensure interoperability and Open Source access. Part of our efforts to spread knowledge is to give publicity to institutions by awarding the Document Freedom Award on the annual Document Freedom Day. Former awarded companies include 1&1, which received the award for offering an open standards based and interoperable chat application to their customers. tagesschau.de was awarded by the FSFE and the FFII for making their programs available in the open video format "Ogg Theora". CNET awarded the FFII the Outstanding contribution to software development prize for this charitable work and benefit for the public.
